week 11: Science of Persuasion

Bloggers use a variety of different persuasion tactics in order to get their message across. When watching the video, Liking came to my attention, and I feel that bloggers use this the most in their writing. We like reading content by people who are similar to us, which is one of the key factors of Liking, according to the video. When searching for blogs to read, we look for someone who shares their likes and dislikes, and if we’re lucky, they have the same, or similar, ones like us.

In the video, it says that there are three components of Liking: people who are similar to us, people who pay us compliments, and people who cooperate with us. As I stated before, we as readers want to read a blog of someone similar to us. And Bloggers want an audience that gives feedback and cooperates with the discussion.

I think that bloggers tend to use more ethos when they write. According to the PowerPoint, Ethos deals with the credibility of the speaker. It goes on to say that Aristotle based the use of ethos on three components: practical wisdom, virtue, and goodwill. The writer has to have knowledge of the subject, compassion, and they have to be concerned about the best interests of their audience.
